The information contained in these pages explains who the Steering Committee is, and how it operates.

In summary, the Steering Committee is a self-organized coordinating body representing NGOs and other Major Groups identified in Agenda 21, with both a Southern and Northern Co-Chair and representatives of issue caucuses, major groups and regional networks from around the world. At present there are 25 issue caucuses, 5 major groups and 25 regional groupings represented on the Steering Committee.

The role of the Steering Committee is to facilitate the involvement of NGOs and other major groups at each annual session of the CSD.

Steering Committee membership is determined in elections held each year at the CSD, and includes representatives of Major Groups, grassroots organizations, national, regional and global NGOs and NGO networks.
